MHKY | Despite Offensive Onslaught, Voyageurs Fall to Ravens

On Friday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team scored 6 goals but it was not enough to beat the powerful Carleton Ravens who came out on top 9-6. 
 
Nicolas Dionne scored early in the game giving Laurentian the early lead just 54 seconds in. Brent Pedersen and Xavier Couture assisted on the goal. 
 
The Vees increased their lead to 2-0 at 7:12, when Pedersen scored on the powerplay unassisted. 
 
The Ravens got one back at 16:34 by way of Brett Welychka. 
 
The Vees would regain their two goal advantage before the end of the first period as Dylan Fitze scored at 17:24 on a play assisted by Tyler Shaw and Richard Therrien. The Vees headed into the first intermission up 3-1 but were outshot 16-4. 
 
The Vees struck again early in the second period, this time by way of Luke McCaw. Russel Nowry and Therrien picked up assists. 
 
The Ravens would claw back again, as Jared Steege scored at 8:32 on the powerplay, bringing the score to 4-2. 
 
Welychka cashed in for his second of the game at 16:44, bringing Carleton within one as the second period ended. 
 
The Ravens then evened the score 57 seconds into the third period as Evan DeHaan found the back of the net. 
 
The Ravens then took their first lead of the game at 2:51 by way of Wyatt Nosky, with a score of 5-4. 
 
Therrien restored the Vees lead on the powerplay at 5:15
 
Welychka's hat trick goal quickly put the Ravens back on top 6-5 at 8:52 on the powerplay. 
 
The Ravens would add three more goals before the end of the period, despite Dionne scoring his second of the game at 13:59. The Ravens were victorious with a final score of 9-6 in Friday's offensive showdown. 
 
Despite the loss, the Vees will look to continue the offence as they host the University of Ottawa tomorrow night.
