MHKY | Voyageurs Stung by Concordia in OT
The Laurentian Men's hockey team concluded their weekend with a game against the Concordia Stinger this evening.
Concordia, typically a very effective team has had a rather slow year as they have a record of only four wins and six losses compared to their loss in in the U Sport Nationals in 2017.
Laurentian had lost previously lost to McGill on Friday night and were looking for the win tonight for a rebound and to add another win into their current 5-8 record.
The game started off with both teams attempting to assert dominance over one another which resulted in twelve minutes of roughing penalties in just the first period.
Concordia would be the first one to assert dominance on the score chart as Philips Sanche would beat Michael Giugovaz with just nine minutes left in the first.
Laurentian would not let Concordia have the lead for long as just two minutes into the second period Russel Nowry scored a wrist shot low blocker from the slot with the help of Xavier Couture and Kaden Ruest.
Concordia answered back nearing the end of the second period as William Leclerc would beat Gigouvaz for the second time, giving the Stingers a 2-1 lead going into the third.
The third period was another action packed twenty-minutes that was looking slim for the Vees but Zach Wilkie scored with just two minutes left for his third goal of the season, a well timed one at that.
Unfortunately the Stingers would prevail in overtime and beat Giugovaz in just forty-six seconds into overtime. Jean-Philippe Beaulieu would be accredited the goal that would give the Stingers their seventh win of the season.
The Vees will travel to UQTR this coming December 1st and 2nd weekend in hopes to come out with two wins for them to hold their playoff spot.
