MHKY | Voyageurs Drop Tight Contest to Gaels

MHKY | Voyageurs Drop Tight Contest to Gaels
The Laurentian Voyageurs played against the Queens Gaels this Friday night in Kingston Ontario.

The first of a two game series in Kingston as the Vees play both the Gaels and RMC this January 25th and 26th weekend.

The Voyageurs season winds down as with only six games left each is crucial in the playoff race.

Mackenzie Savard would be the MVP in tonight's match up as he saved 28 shots from the Gaels and kept the Voyageurs in the game for almost the entire match.

A big second period from both goaltenders, Savard and the Gaels Fazio as neither team was able to successfully land a tick in the goal column.

The second period kept the crowd on the edge of seats as many chances in both arose in both teams favour. The Gaels Eric Margo and Slater Dogget would set the Gaels ahead by a two goal lead. Margo would score his third goal of the season and Dogget would net his sixteenth of the season just four minutes apart.

After an offensive outbreak by the Gaels the Voyageurs Xavier Couture would beat Justin Fazio with just one minute-forty left in the second period to cut the Gaels' lead in half. Varrin and Cooper would pick up the assists on Couture's goal.

After a huge third period by both teams and impressive shows put on my both net-minders the Voyageurs would find themselves unsuccessful in the ability to tie this match up.

The game would end in a 3-1 Gaels win after an empty net goal by Liam Dunda nearing the closing of the third.

The Voyageurs take on RMC tomorrow Saturday, January 26th in hopes to bounce back from the loss to the Gaels.
