MHKY | Voyageurs Can't Contain Gee-Gees

The Laurentian Voyageurs men's hockey team played their final game for the weekend against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The Voyageurs lost by one goal yesterday against the top ranked Carleton Ravens but had an opportunity for retribution against the fourth place Gee-Gees this afternoon. The Gee-Gees are also ranked sixth in U Sports. 

Both teams were fortunate enough to score in the first frame but it would be the Voyageurs first, nine minutes and six seconds in. David Elford received a pass backdoor for a tap in from Kalsner-Lowe. Elford would score his second goal of the season on Anthony Brodeur. Marc-Antoine Gagnon, the Voyageurs defenseman turned forward, would pick up the second assist. 

The lead wouldn't last long. Three and a half minutes later, Ottawa's Kevin Domingue tied the game with a powerplay goal. Domingue terrorized the Voyageurs in last year's first-round playoff series, scoring six goals in the two games. 

The Gee-Gees would blow the game open in the second period. Jacob Hanlon would score his first of two eighteen seconds in. Hanlon scored again eight minutes later, giving the Gee-Gees a two-goal lead. Domingue would pick up his second of the afternoon at 13:26, then Marco Azzano would round out the scoring in the final minute. The Gee-Gees outshot the Voyageurs 15-6 in the period and held a 5-1 lead.

The Voyageurs picked up the pace in the third, outshooting the Gee-Gees 17-10. Their efforts would see them score two more goals in what seemed like the Voyageurs mounting a comeback. On the powerplay with four minutes left, William Gignac would streak down the ice and split both Gee-Gee defenders and put the puck off Brodeur, which Paul-Antoine Deslauriers would finish. 

The last and final goal for the Voyageurs came from Danny Lepage forty-two seconds after Deslauriers'. Kalsner-Lowe poked the puck from the Gee-Gee defence which arrived on Lepage's stick in the slot and he buried it.

The Voyageurs pulled the goalie in the last ninety seconds, but were unable to score another goal and ultimately fell 5-3.

The Vees would drop both games on the weekend but will have an opportunity for a win next weekend against RMC.
