Bio

Coach Parker enters his 16th season of coaching with the Voyageurs and his 13th year as a head coach. Parker and his Voyageur squad are coming off of a very successful 2014-2015 campaign that saw them crowned Tihanyi Divisional Champions for the first time in school history and sent four swimmers to the national championships.

Parker began his coaching career as an assistant to one of the world’s best, Dr. Jeno Tihanyi. In his first year as head coach, Parker produced two OUA Champions and three CIS finalists. Since that first season, he has produced an additional 10 OUA Champions, 18 OUA silver medalists, 41 bronze medalists and 29 CIS finalists. Over his 13 seasons as head coach, the Voyageurs men’s and women’s swim teams have never missed a CIS National Championship and to date, 48 of his swimmers have competed at the championships.

A graduate of both the B.Sc. (Kinesiology) and M.Sc. (Human Development) programs here at Laurentian University, Coach Parker is able to help his swimmers not only achieve great feats in the water, but also helps his student-athletes succeed in the classroom as well.

Coach Parker is a Level III certified coach and a member of the Canadian Swimming Coaches Association. Both Coach Parker and assistant coach Connor Watson take it upon themselves to not only teach these individuals to swim fast, but also to prepare these student-athletes for the world that awaits them after university and swimming is over. The skills acquired from this program will put these individuals a step above the rest once they graduate.

Outside the pool, Coach Parker is also a part-time professor within the School of Human Kinetics at Laurentian University teaching first year students Anatomy and Kinesiology. Phil also enjoys traveling, mountain biking, and live music. He is a huge hockey fan and is the king of winning hockey pools throughout the city. Coach Parker lives in Sudbury with his wife Tamara and their 6 year old son, Nolan.
