The Voyageurs lost by 19 points against the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night as they lost 64-45.
Both teams jostled back and forth throughout the first but due to the Warriors' better shooting percentage, they were able to gain a six point lead at the quarter's conclusion. Leading the way for the Warriors were Kaitlyn Overeem with seven points and for Kayla Deschatelets with six points. Next, the same trend was seen in the second quarter and Warriors outscored the Voyageurs 15-11 and finished the first half with a 10-point lead as the scoreline read 32-22. The Warriors shot 31.3% from the field as compared to the Voyageurs' just 22.6%.
However, the Voyageurs stepped their play intensity in the third quarter as they outscored their opponents 13-11. Leading the way was Kayla Deschatelets once again, this time adding seven points. The Voyageurs managed to cut the lead to nine points at the end of the third quarter but unfortunately, they were unable to sustain this style of play as they were outscored 21-10 in the fourth quarter and ultimately lost the match by a score of 64-45. Kayla Deschatlets added a marvelous 14 points in the second half and finished with an impressive scoreline line of 23 points, seven rebounds and one assist. The Warriors shot 32.4% from the field and were led by Beth Howlett with 16 points and and Kaitlyn Overeem with 11 points.
The Voyageurs will now battle the cross-town team of Wilfrid Laurier University tomorrow at Athletic Complex Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 pm.
