WBB | Voyageurs Come Out on Losing End Against Thunderwolves

The Laurentian Women's Basketball team had another tough outing on Friday night when they lost to the Lakehead Thunderwolves by a score of 85-72.

The Thunderwolves came out flying by going on an 11-4 run to start the match. The Voyageurs however would make a comeback and cut the lead to four points with the help from Héléna Lamoureaux's jump shot with just 5:10 left in the quarter. But after that point, the Thunderwolves put their foot on the gas pedal and outscored the Voyageurs by 16 points as they put 33 points on the scoreboard while restricting the Voyageurs to 17 points. The second quarter was a continuation of the first in which the Thunderwolves further stretched their lead. The Thynderwolves' lead was as much as by 26 points but when the first half came to a close, the scoreline read 53-31 in favour of the Thunderwolves. Outstanding players in the half from the Thunderwolves included Sofia Lluch with 15 points, Nikki Ylagan with nine points, Lily Gruber-Schulz with eight points and Kate McPhail with seven points whereas outstanding players from the Voyageurs included Lamoureaux with 10 points and Sidney Crawford, Gabby Schaffnerr and Maria La Rosa all with six points each.

The second half was a repeat of the first half with the Voyageurs reducing the lead at various occasions but presented no real threat to the Thunderwolves. When all was said and done, the Thunderwolves came out victorious by a score of 85-72.

One bright spot for the Voyageurs came in the form of an outstanding offensive showing from Lamoureaux who is quickly turning into a bonafide star in the OUA as she tied Lluch of the Thunderwolves for leading goal scorer in the match with 24 points.

The Voyageurs will now travel to the provincial capital and take on the York Lions, tomorrow, January 25. Tip off is scheduled for 6 pm Tait McKenzie Centre.
