WHKY | Voyageurs Lose to Rams

WHKY | Voyageurs Lose to Rams

The Laurentian Voyageurs women's hockey team stayed in Sudbury and welcomed both teams from Toronto, the Ryerson Rams and Toronto Varsity Blues for an action packed weekend.

The Rams would be the first opponent this November 15th, the Rams are currently 4-4-0 on the season.

The Voyageurs opened the scoring with a sense of urgency as Nataniele Lamoureux scored her very first OUA goal in her two seasons as a Voyageur. Lamoureux was left wide open and received a cross crease pass from Angelique Page and would send it past Rachel Seeley for a 1-0 Voyageur lead. Ariana Bowditch would get the second assist.

The Rams would look for revenge on the Voyageurs and they would find it with back to back to back to back goals. Karli Nummikoski, Camryn Tait, Erika Crouse and Kryshanda Green would all be awarded a goal giving the Rams a 4-1 lead over the Vees.

The Voyageurs would receive power on the powerplay after Bowditch found Jaimee Macdonald on one knee in the slot. Macdonald was able to beat Seeley over the blocker for the second Voyageurs goal and as well her first ever OUA goal in two seasons. As well, a score of 4-2 at the end of two.

The Rams would add another nine minutes into the third with Teagan Gartley's goal. Shortly after, Ryerson's Kryshanda Green would take a double-minor for head contact, giving the Vees a chance to get back into the game. Despite several good chances, the Vees were unable to capitalize on the powerplay. With just over a minute left, Avery Horlock would beat Shanna Dolighan from the point and make for a 6-2 Rams lead.

The Vees drop the first game 6-2 but will face the Varsity Blues today at 4:00 PM at Countryside Arena.
