WHKY | Voyageurs Blow Out Ridgebacks 5-0

The Laurentian Voyageurs women's hockey team played their second game of the weekend against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. After dropping the first game against the Gaels, the Voyageurs had an opportunity at splitting the weekend against the 1-10-0 Ridgebacks.

An eventful first period for the Vees as they were the only team to score in the first frame, Karrisa Hoskin busted down the side of the ice beating both her defender and Brooke Vial after cutting towards the net and slipping the puck five-hole. Tessa Marcon would pick up the assist and Hoskin would pot her fifth goal of the season and become the point leader for the Vees.

The Voyageurs would start the second period with another scoring drive coming from a shot from the point from the Voyageurs co-captain Annie Sherdian. Payton Bray would tip in Sherdians shot out through Brooke Vial just one minute and thirty seconds into the second. Regan Toltesi would pick up the second assist.

Bray, Toltesi and Sherdian would make for a repeat five and a half minutes later on a powerplay opportunity. Bray would create yet again the same goal coming from Toltesi and Sherdian but rather this time Bray would tip Toltesis' shot from the point.

The Voyageurs would score yet another goal for their fourth goal in two periods. A common theme on the night, Megan Arnott would tip in a shot from Julia Giannitsopoulos from the point making for a 4-0 game for the Vees. This goal would also chase Vial from the Ridgebacks' net.

The Voyageurs offensive train would not stop at four as Brynn O'Dwyer would score her first ever OUA goal in her three seasons as a Voyageurs and give the Vees a 5-0 lead. O'Dwyer would receive the puck in the slot from Arnott and would beat Briar Hughes top corner for her first goal against. The Voyageurs scored five goals in a game for the first time since January 6, 2018.

The Voyageurs would have a solid game in net as Danielle Toland would put up thirty-eight saves and her first OUA shutout, as well as one of her best performances as a Voyageurs and send the Ridgebacks home winless.

The Vees would split the weekend and improve their record to 5-5-1, and will play their final game before exams against the York Lions on November 29th.
