ROW | Voyageurs Golden at OUA Championships

A pair of Voyageurs returned home from the OUA Championships with some hardware around their necks on Saturday as Charles Alexander and Hayley Chase won the men's and women's single races, respectively.

Alexander qualified for the finals with the second fastest time in the field, winning his heat by clocking a 7:28.12.  In the final, Alexander pulled himself ahead of the field to the tune of 7:21.29, finishing more than four seconds in front of the second place boat from Trent and more than eight seconds clear of the bronze medalist from Carleton.

On the women's side, Chase entered the final with the fastest time of 8:09.54.  In the final, Chase found herself in a three-way battle for the medals as the three podium finishers had more than 15 seconds on the rest of the field. As they came to the line, it was Chase who pulled away from her competitors from Guelph and Western, crossing the line in 8:05.72 to claim the gold medal, forcing the Gryphon and Mustang rowers to settle for silver and bronze, respectively.

Abbey Maillet also dawned the blue and gold for the Voyageurs at the Championships, finishing in fourth in the women's lightweight single after being edged out at the line by a mere two tenths of a second by the rower from McMaster.
