MBB | Voyageurs Fall Short of the Comeback

MBB | Voyageurs Fall Short of the Comeback

In their first game of 2017, the Laurentian Voyageurs Men's Basketball team fell 86-82 at home to the OUA Central leading Brock Badgers. Though the Vee's put up a strong push near the end of the game, they were unable to come away with the victory.

The bulk of the first half saw the Voyageurs unable to stop the Badgers' high tempo offense. Possession after possession Brock was able to flex their strength in the paint. It was inside the paint that they did the most damage, often times backing down Laurentian players and walking straight to the basket. For the Vee's, it was too many broken plays that led to poor percentage shots. At times the offense seemed lost in the fast pace of the game.

The offensive woes continued for Laurentian in the second half. Brock's big men were able to stop the Vee's from penetrating the paint, forcing them to once again take low percentage shots. It was their inability to establish an inside game that led to their demise in the game.

Kadre Gray picked up where he left off in 2016, leading the Voyageurs and the game with 24 points. For the Badgers, it was guard Ryan Bennett who led his squad with 17 points.

Laurentian is back in action tomorrow with a game against the 4-4 McMaster Marauders that gets underway at the Ben Avery Gym at 8PM.
