MBB | Lakers Upset Voyageurs

MBB | Lakers Upset Voyageurs

After their win over the Nipissing University Lakers in North Bay this past Wednesday night, the stage was set for a Northern rivalry rematch in the Ben Avery Gymnasium this afternoon. With an evenly matched first three quarters of gameplay, it appeared that the victor would be decided in the final minutes of the game. As a result, for the third time this season the Voyageurs fell with a final score of 101-96.

Though the stat lines were pretty much even between both teams, one factor that was implicit in the demise of Laurentian was trips to the free throw line. The Voyageurs took 14 trips to the charity stripe, less than half of the visits than their opponents, as the Lakers tallied 32 free throw shots.

Leading contributor for the Voyageurs was second year guard Kadre Gray who recorded 34 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Another notable performance came from second year guard Josis Mikia-Thomas who shot 78% while earning 17 points and 7 rebounds in the match.

Top scorers for the Lakers were Marcus Lewis and Marvin Ngonadi who both had 21 points.

The Voyageurs will look to regroup and bounce back next Friday when they face off against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees on home court. Tip off is at 8pm.
