MBB | Voyageurs Leave #9 Ranked Golden Hawks Flightless

A marvellous performance from the Voyageurs prevented the nationally ninth-ranked Golden Hawks to take flight on Friday night as they beat the Golden Hawks by a score of 84-69.

The first quarter was a back and forth affair between the two teams. The Voyageurs, however, came out with the upper hand as they outscored the Golden Hawks 26-22 at the conclusion of the first quarter. In the second quarter though, the Golden Hawks stepped their offensive and defensive plays. They restricted the Voyageurs to just nine points in the quarter and outscored them 17-9 which helped them take a four point lead going into the second half. They Voyageurs were led by Ali Sow with 13 points and Ben Stevens with six points while the Voyageurs were led by Haroun Mohamed with 11 points and Joseph Hlady with seven points.

The third quarter was much more of the same of the first; a back and forth battle with the Voyageurs coming out on top with just two points (16-14). But, the Voyageurs showed their class in the fourth quarter where they stepped up their intense style of play on both ends of the floor. First they restricted the Golden Hawks to just 16 points in the quarter while they themselves scored 33 to seal the deal. But the quarter was more close than what the box score conveys. It was once again a back and forth affair with numerous lead changes. But, three back-to-back-to-back threes made by Sam Ivey and Joseph Hlady propelled the Voyageurs to take a moderate five point lead with 4:42 left in the match. And through the Voyageurs' defensive efforts, they would not squander this lead and ultimately emerged victorious with an 84-69 victory over the seventh ranked team in the country.

The Voyageurs will now travel back home and host the McMaster Marauders on November 22 at Ben avery Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 pm.
