MBB | Voyageurs Lose to First-Ranked Ravens

The Laurentian Voyageurs were in tough against the best team in the country, the Carleton Ravens, on Saturday night as they looked to avenge their earlier defeat by the Ravens before the exam break. Unfortunately for the Voyageurs, they came out on the losing end as they dropped the contest by a score of 95-69.

The first half was a see-saw battle between both teams. The first quarter alone saw eight lead changes and the Voyageurs were outscored 22-21. The Voyageurs had a better shooting quarter than the Ravens as they shot 46.2% whereas they restricted the Ravens to 41.2%. The Ravens were led by Lloyd Pandi with seven points and Yaslin Joseph with five points whereas Cedric Nga Mbiaba and Kadre Gray led the Voyageurs with six and five points respectively.

The second quarter saw the Ravens being a slightly better team than the Voyageurs as they managed to shoot 47.1% from the field, all the while restricting the Voyageurs to just 31.3% shooting. The Voyageurs managed to reduce the deficit to six points with 2:42 minutes left in the first half but that would be as close as they would get as the Ravens eventually stretched the lead to eight points at the conclusion of the first half. The scoreboard read as 40-32 in favour of the Ravens. Yaslin Joseph and Lloyd Pandi were joint leading scorers for the Ravens in the quarter with six points each whereas Litha Ncanisa and Gaetan Chamand were joint leading scorers for the Voyageurs with four points each.

The Ravens put the pedal to the metal in the third quarter and sealed the victory in the third quarter. They administered 33 points on 56.0% in reply of the Voyageurs 14 points on 40.0% shooting. At the end of the quarter, the Raven lead was as much as by 27 points and to dig out of this hole would prove to be a monumental task for the Voyageurs, and they were unable to recover from this deficit. The score line at this time in the match read 73-46 in favour of the Ravens. Isiah Osborne was the leading scorer for the Ravens with 10 points quarter, followed by Ivan Cucak with six points. On the other hand, Sam Ivey was the leading scorer for the Voyageurs in the quarter with five points and was followed by Gray with four points.

The fourth quarter, in all fairness was better for the Voyageurs as they outscored their opponents 23-22 but this effort went in vain as they could not climb their way back to the top. The Voyageurs fell 95-69 when all was done and dusted.

The Voyageurs now head on the road to take on their northern rivals, the Nipissing Lakers, on Friday, January 17. Tip off is scheduled for 8 pm at Robert J Surtees Student Athletics Centre.
