The Laurentian Voyageurs men's basketball team hosted the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold on Friday night at the Ben Avery Gym, where they would suffer defeat by a score of 100-69.

The Voyageurs struggled from the outset against a very formidable TMU team. The Bold defense was very high energy and organized from the opening tip, holding Laurentian to just two solitary points until the 3:42 mark of the first quarter. Although they made a slight comeback near the end of the first, Laurentian would trail TMU 29-15 at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter saw the Voyageurs close the gap somewhat, coming up with more stops on defense and holding the Bold to just 40% from the field and forcing five turnovers. However, their inability to convert on key chances, including only going 1-8 from beyond the arc in the quarter, allowed TMU to hold their opponents at bay and extend their lead to 51-32 at the break.

The Voyageurs would keep on fighting as they came back out for the second half but every attempted run to get back into the game was shut down by a Toronto three or an untimely turnover. The closest the Voyageurs would get would be a 12 point deficit as Laurentian seemed just a step behind for a large part of the game. The final score was 100-69 in favour of the away team.

Tonight's key performers were Caillou Lacroix who came up with 22 points and seven rebounds along with Cedric Mbiaba who had 13 points along with eight rebounds of his own.

Laurentian faces off against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday night where they will try to round off their weekend with a win against a Varsity Blues team that sit atop the Central Division in OUA.
