Laurentian men's basketball took a midweek trip to Guelph on Wednesday, a game in which they would end up on the wrong end of the score line, 90-71.

The first quarter was action packed, with both teams exchanging blows right off the bat. Defense seemed to take a back seat as the teams combined for 41 total points in the first. Apart from the defense, Laurentian played a solid first quarter overall but a slight lapse in concentration near the end of it allowed Guelph to get a leg up and a small 22-19 lead after one.

The second quarter ended up being the downfall of Laurentian. Nothing seemed to go right for them as an imaginary lid sealed the basket, shutting out nearly every shot for the Voyageurs. Guelph, on the other hand, kept consistently getting scores and really began extending their lead. By the time the buzzer sounded, signaling the end of the second, Laurentian had managed just nine points in the period, going 4-20 from the field, and were outrebounded 16-9.  This all added up to the fact that they would go into the change room down 44-28.

In the second half, Laurentian needed to manufacture a comeback of some sort and at least cut the lead down in third before making a push in the fourth. However, that push never turned into anything as, in the third, they were outscored 23-17, going 0-6 form three in the process. Although they did outscore Guelph in the fourth, the game was already well out of reach and Guelph would send the visitors packing with a 90-71 win over the Voyageurs.

A special mention goes out to Rudy Beya who had, by far, his best game of the season with 16 points off the bench and shooting a very efficient 6-8 from the field, making all four of his free throw attempts.

Laurentian will go again Saturday night at Ben Avery when they take on #5 ranked Brock Badgers.
