MBB - Turnovers and mistakes by the Voyageurs lead to defeat against UofT

On Friday night, the men's basketball team took on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in their first away game of the weekend. With several turnovers and mistakes made throughout the game, the Voyageurs were unable to claim victory against the Varsity Blues.

In the first quarter, Cedric Mbiaba got fouled in the first minute, leading to two successful free throws. Later on, Mbiaba scored his first layup of the game, and Chikosi Boardi scored the first two 3-pointers for the Voyageurs, equalizing the game at 10 points. At the fourth-minute mark, Keenan Morain and Ismael Konate both made two free throws, which concluded scoring for the Voyageurs in the first quarter. The Varsity Blues were ahead 24-15.

In the second quarter, Daniel Muila netted two layups and Kamil Dia Hantchi scored two points. At this point, both teams were scoreless for a few minutes, until the Varsity Blues scored. With three minutes to go, Mbiaba scored two layups, giving Laurentian a 10-point deficit going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Caillou Lacroix was able to score his first layup and jump shot of the game, followed by another layup by Hantchi. While driving to the net, Pierre Mukandila got fouled, leading to two successful free-throw attempts. With ten seconds left, Morain scored a layup. At this point, the Voyageurs were trailing 55-35.

In the last ten minutes, Morain added three points to the board and Muila scored two more layups. The Varsity Blues kept answering to the Voyageurs' points, giving them an even bigger lead. In the last three minutes, Ahmad Cidi-Jalloh scored two free throws and a 3-point shot, ending scoring for the Voyageurs. The Varsity Blues won the game 79-48.

The standout performers were Daniel Muila with 8 points and 7 rebounds, Cedric Mbiaba with 8 points and 4 rebounds, and Keenan Morain with 7 points and 3 rebounds.

The Voyageurs are back in action on Saturday, as they take on the TMU Bold in their last game of the weekend. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 pm.
