MBB - Voyageurs suffer second loss of the weekend to TMU

On Saturday night, the men's basketball team played against the TMU Bold in their second game of a road trip weekend. TMU proved to be too strong for the Voyageurs, as they dropped the match 100-58.

To start the first quarter, Cedric Mbiaba netted a free throw, the first point of the game. Right after, Kamil Dia Hantchi and Pierre Mukandila each made a layup, giving the Voyageurs a three-point lead. At the sixth minute mark, Caillou Lacroix netted his first 3-point shot of the game, followed by two minutes of scoreless action from both teams. With less than four minutes to go in the quarter, Hantchi and Mbiaba scored a combination of 7 points, which were the last points scored by the Voyageurs in this quarter. TMU was winning 19-15 at this point.

In the second quarter, Laurentian did not put up a point until the seventh-minute mark, where Mbiaba and Keenan Morain both scored a layup, followed by Daniel Muila's first layup of the game. With aggressive defense from TMU, the Voyageurs were only able to score 2 more layups from Lacroix, both made in the last minute of the quarter. The Voyageurs were trailing 40-25 going into halftime.

Coming back from halftime, Lacroix scored an early layup and Hantchi scored a 3-pointer. In the third minute, Ismael Konate was able to net his first 2 points and Mbiaba made another free throw. With one minute to go in the quarter and the TMU Bold nearing a doubled score, Konate scored another layup and Gaetan Chamand put up 2 points. Mbiba's successful free throw attempt was the last point scored by Laurentian in this quarter, needing 19 points to catch up to TMU.

In the last quarter, TMU was way more aggressive on offense, scoring several points in the first minute. Almost halfway through the quarter, Evan Munro added 2 points to the board, while Lacroix and Mukandila added a combination of 9 points to the score sheet. In the last three minutes, Mukandila made two free throws and Hantchi scored two 3-point shots which concluded scoring for Laurentian and resulted in a 100-58 loss.

The standout performers were Caillou Lacroix with 15 points, Kamil Dia Hantchi with 14 points and Cedric Mbiaba with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

The men are back in action on Friday, as they take on the Brock University Badgers in their last away game of the season. Tip off is scheduled for 8 pm.
