MSOC | Voyageurs Open Up 2018 With Tough Loss in Battle With Ravens

The 2018 OUA season officially began Saturday afternoon for the Voyageurs men's soccer team as they fought through the elements in a tough 2-1 loss to the Carleton Ravens.

With a steady flow of rain to start the game, both teams took a few minutes to get going as only one shot was sent on either goalkeeper in the first half, which included reigning OUA East First-Team All-Star, Connor Vande Weghe. A fast-paced first half ended in a scoreless tie.

The second half started much the same until half way through regular time when the Ravens were able to solve Vande Weghe courtesy of a nice cross from Dante Cobisa. The Voyageurs generated some offensive chances of their own, increasing pressure on the Ravens defense until an unlucky bounce went the opposite way and resulted in another tally for the Ravens in the 88th minute.

With a 2-0 deficit and now into injury time, the Voyageurs managed to cut the lead in half on a Zef Kraja tally, however, the surge proved to be just a little too late as time ended on a strong debut for the young Voyageurs squad against a tough Carleton Ravens team who finished sixth in the country last season.

The Voyageurs will look to secure their first victory of the season next Saturday as they travel to Kingston to take on the RMC Paladins at 2:15pm.
