MSOC | Gaels Score Late, Voyageurs Lose in Heart-breaker

The Voyageurs lost yet another heartbreaker, this time coming at the hands of Queen's Gaels by a score of 1-0.

The match started calmly with both teams pushing to find the go-ahead goal. The first half was highlighted by a number of spectacular saves from Laurentian goalkeeper Connor Vande Weghe to keep the match scoreless. The first came in the 13th minute and the second just two minutes later off a penalty shot from the Gaels. This early onslaught from Queen's was then matched with play being centred in the midfield. Both teams had a number of opportunities to break the deadlock but unfortunately were unable to convert. The first half would come to an end with the score tied at 0-0.

The second half saw more of the same from the first with both teams attacking but just coming up short. Regardless of increased pressure from Queen's, they were unable to find the back of the until one of the Voyageurs was sent off in the 84th minute. Consequently, the resulting free kick was sent into the box where an unfortunate bounce found the cleats of Junior Kwame Addai who put the ball at the back of the net and scored the eventual game winner. Thus, the Voyageurs dropped a tough contest by a score of 1-0.

The Voyageurs still occupy a playoff spot with UOIT on their tail who are just one point behind. The Voyageurs will now welcome the RMC Paladins on Sunday at 2:15pm at James Jerome Sports Complex.
