MSOC | Patenaude Nets a Pair, Voyageurs Earn First Win

The men's soccer team hosted RMC on Sunday afternoon to wrap up their weekend.  In what turned out to be a tighter game than anticipated, a late goal staked to the Voyageurs to a 3-2 victory.

The game started out with a lot of play in the middle of the pitch as neither team could generate much offence.  It wasn't until the 27th minute when a seemingly innocuous free kick from 50 yards out was headed on by Henry Gagnon past the outstretched hands of an oncoming Ben Firman to give the Paladins a 1-0 lead.  Just the minutes later, Nicolas Patenaude stood over a free kick just outside of the 18-yard box and proceeded to bend the ball over and around the wall of defenders, into the bottom right corner to level things at one.

The game retuned to a battle in the middle of the pitch until the 61st minute when Patenaude fired home his second goal of the game off a free kick.  After the Paladins tied things up in the 79th minute from a free kick of their own, Patenaude sent Eddy Opoku-Dapaah in alone on the keeper in the 84th minute.  Opoku-Dapaah made a deft move around the keeper and confidently side-footed the ball into the open net to secure the 3-2 win.

Firman made four saves in what was his first OUA victory.

The team will look to build off the win when they visit the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and Trent Excalibur on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.  Kick-off is scheduled for 3:15pm both days.
