WBB | Voyageurs Fall to Persistent Lions

The Voyageurs women's basketball team hit the road this weekend as they travelled to Toronto to take on the York Lions on Friday night. Still feeling the energy from their win over the Nipissing Lakers last weekend, the women went into the game with high hopes but were defeated in a nail-biting game, losing 61-65.

The Voyageurs brought their A-game in the first quarter, leading the Lions for the majority of the period with great offensive plays as well as accurate free throws made by Mackenzie Robinson.

The Vees kept up their power in the 2nd period, maintaining their lead over the Lions with tight defense and fantastic passes. Near the end of the quarter, a foul by Laurentian's Meghan Forestell gave the Lions the opportunity to make both of their free throws and steal the lead, ending the period with a score of 30-29.

After the half-time break, the Voyageurs came back with a vengeance to attempt to regain their lead, but were met with powerful offense from the Lions. The majority of the period saw Laurentian trailing York by one or two points, but by the end of the quarter the Lions were able to widen their lead with a score of 52-47.

By the fourth period, the Voyageurs were desperate to regain the lead that they had held for the first half. As the final seconds of the game counted down, the Voyageurs were behind by only one point. Fouls by L'Ashante Henry and Kayla Deschatelets in the final moments of the game granted the Lions a chance to widen their lead, ending the game with a win for York and a score of 65-61.

The Voyageurs will be back in action on Saturday January 28th at 6pm as they take on Queen's University. You can stay up to date with the Voyageurs at www.luvoyageurs.com or by following @LUVoyageurs on Twitter.
