WBB | Lancers Edge Out Voyageurs

WBB | Lancers Edge Out Voyageurs

The Laurentian Voyageurs lost yet another close encounter this season as they dropped their most recent decision to the Windsor Lancers by just four points. The scoreline read as 65-61.

The first quarter was the difference as the Lancers outscored the Voyageurs 22-13 on 47.4% shooting. Leading the way were Olivia Osamusali with 5 points and Yasmeen Smith with 4 points. They Voyageurs shot only 26.2% but Bailey Tabin had an impressive shooting quarter as she went 75% from the field and scored 11 of the Voyageurs' 13 points in the quarter.

However, in the second quarter, the Voyageurs stepped up their play and went toe-to toe with the Lancers. The Voyageurs outshot the Lancers 35.7% to 22.7% and consequently outscored them 17-14 and were down by just six at the half. Leading the way for the Voyageurs were veteran guard Kayla Deschatelets and Zoe Hutchins. Other contributors included Danielle Reid with three points and Bailey Tabin with two.

But unfortunately, in the third quarter, it were the Voyageurs who were outscored by three points, even though the Voyageurs shot slightly better than the Lancers. Olivia Osamusali and Kaylee Anagnostospoulos led the way in scoring for the Lancers. But, the Voyageurs showed their gutsy spirit throughout the quarter, for instance, they went on a run midway through and cut the lead to just four. Notably, Deschatelets made a strong solo effort to score two points and an additional point via the foul in the 5:09 minute mark of the quarter. When the third quarter came to a close, the Voyageurs were down by nine points as the scoreline read 50-41.

The fourth quarter was where the Voyageurs gave it their all. They went on a 12-7 run to cut the lead to just two points midway through the quarter. What followed after was a back and forth affair between the Voyageurs and the tenth best team in the country. But to the dismay of the Voyageurs, the Lancer's would not squander their lead and in the end, only four points separated the Voyageurs from the Lancers juggernaut.

The Voyageurs will now try to right the ship when they host the Western Mustangs on Friday, November 8 at Ben Avery Gymnasium.
