WBB | Laurentian Lose to Mustangs

The Laurentian Voyageurs were outduelled by the Western Mustangs on Friday night as they dropped the encounter by 12 points.

It was a nightmarish start for the Voyageurs as they were outscored by 17-6 in the first quarter. The Mustangs shot 36.4% from the field compared to the Voyageurs who shot 20.0%. Leading the way for the Mustangs were Rachel Fradgley and Julia Curran. Kayla Deschatelets and Helena Lamoureaux were the only point scorers for the Voyageurs as they added 4 points and 2 points respectively.

But in the second quarter, the Voyageurs came out firing. They shot 53.3% from the field but were outscored by the Mustangs 21-18 in the quarter. All five starters of the Voyageurs had good shooting quarter and so did Sidney Crawford whose efforts helped them achieve the aforementioned feat but the Mustangs also went toe-to-toe with the Voyageurs and prevented them from reducing the lead to single digits. By the end of the quarter, the Voyageurs trailed the Mustangs by 14 points as the score read 38-24.

However, the Voyageurs defence and offence, both were on point in the third quarter as they restricted the Mustangs to just 12 points on 16.0% shooting whereas they scored 19 points themselves on 42.1% shooting. Bailey Tabin was the leading scorer with eight points. As a result, the Voyageurs trailed just seven at the conclusion of the quarter.

Unfortunately, the Voyageurs could not sustain their offensive and defensive intensity in the second. They allowed the Mustangs to shoot 53.85 from the field while they shot just 27.8%. As a consequence, they were outscored by 19-14 in the quarter and lost the match by a score of 69-57. The Mustangs were led by Rachel Fradgley, Elizabeth Leblanc, Maddy Horst, Julia Curran and Ariane Saumure whereas the Voyageurs were led by Bailey Tabin, Kayla Deschatelets, Helena Lamoureux and Danielle Reid

The Voyageurs have a day to rest before they take on their long time arch rivals, the Nippising Lakers on matinee Sunday. Tip off is scheduled for 1 pm.
