WBB | Third-Ranked Carleton Too Much for Voyageurs

WBB | Third-Ranked Carleton Too Much for Voyageurs

The Laurentian Voyageurs could not handle the power of the nationally third ranked Carleton Ravens on Friday night as they lost by a score of 79-58.

It was a horrific start for the Vees as the Ravens started the match on an 11-0 run. The Voyageurs eventually made a strong comeback and cut the lead down to 14-7 but unfortunately they could not close the gap and ultimately trailed the Ravens by 24-12 at the end of the quarter. The Vees played well in the second quarter as they scored more points than they did in the first quarter but it was still not enough as the Ravens outscored them by seven points and led 45-26 at the end of the first half. The Ravens shot 50.0% from the field and were led in scoring by Alyssa Cerino with 13 points and Tatyanna Burke with eight points. The Voyageurs shot 44.0% from the field and their leading scorers included Danielle Reid, Kayla Deschatelets, and Bailey Tabin, all with six points each, followed by Rileigh Smith with five points.

The third was more of the same of what was seen in the first half. The Ravens dominated play and outscored the Voyageurs 21-13. They ultimately stretched the lead to 66-39. However, the fourth quarter sparked a breath of fresh air in the Voyageurs as they outscored the Raven 19-13. But unfortunately, they could not close the gap between themselves and their opponents and dropped the encounter by a score of 78-59.

They Voyageurs will look to get back on track when they take on the fourth ranked team in the country, the Ottawa Gee-Gees, tomorrow at Montpetit Hall at 6 pm.
