WBB | Rams Crush Voyageurs in Season Finale

WBB | Rams Crush Voyageurs in Season Finale

The Voyageurs closed out their regular season on a sour note by losing to the nationally-ranked fourth best team in the country, the Ryerson Rams, on Saturday evening by a score of 80-50.

The Voyageurs never really threatened the Rams in any way throughout the entire match. Both teams went toe-to-toe to start the match as the Voyageurs were down by just three points with under four minutes left in the quarter but the Rams then put their foot on the gas and finished the quarter on a 12-0 run to give themselves a 15 point lead by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a more even affair as the Rams outscored the Voyageurs by just three points (17-14) but the lead stood at 18 points by the end of the first half. The Rams were led by second year forward Rachel Farwell with 18 points and Marin Scotten with 10 points in the half, whereas the Voyageurs were led by Bailey Tabin with 11 points and Héléna Lamoureaux with 10 points. However, it is important to note that both teams shot similar percentages from the field as each other since the Rams shot 38.5% while the Voyageurs shot 35.5%.

The second half was much more of the same than the first. The Rams continued their offensive style of play and outscored the Voyageurs in each quarter. The Voyageurs were outscored 20-10 in the third quarter and 16-14 in the fourth. The Voyageurs shot just 24.3% from the field while the Rams shot 34.4% and they would hold on to their lead and when the dust was settled, the Voyageurs came out on the losing end by a score of 80-50.

Leading scorers for the Rams included Farwell who scored a game high 36 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists. Meanwhile, her teammate, Scotten scored 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. On the other hand, the Voyageurs were led by Tabin with 18 points, 18 rebounds and three assists and was followed closely by Lamoureaux with 15 points, 10 rebounds and one steal.

The Voyageurs finish the 2019-2020 season with a record of 3-19 and will now look to build for more success next season.
