The Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team ended their road trip this past weekend with a game against the York Lions, losing by a score of 70-47.

The Voyageurs started the game off strong, showing the Lions that they were no pushovers and that they were looking for revenge after their heartbreaking loss the night before. The Voyageurs were able to get down low in the paint on numerous occasions, resulting in easy scores and lots of free throws over the course of the first quarter. This put Laurentian up 19-15 going into the second quarter.

The second quarter saw a massive adjustment from the Lions post players. Laurentian's dominant paint presence began to evaporate and York began to take control of the game as they outrebounded the Voyageurs 15-5 in the quarter and second chance points for the Lions really took the forefront. This meant that, as the teams went into the locker room for half time, York had taken the lead, 34-28, and all of the momentum with them.

It was the third quarter that seemed to put the nail in coffin for Laurentian as, once more, they were denied any real opportunities to build their way back into the game, being outscored 19-7 in the quarter. Laurentian's shooting ended up going ice cold, shooting just 2-9 from the field in the quarter and being forced into seven turnovers in the third quarter alone.

This meant that for the final ten minutes, it felt almost as though the game remained just out of reach for the Voyageurs.  After a strong start to the game, they just could never find a way back into it after they fell behind and, as the clock hit 0, the score read York 70, Laurentian 47.

Laurentian top performers on the day included 9 points from both Princess Bernardino and Bailey Tabin as well as 11 points off the bench from Megan Axiak, who went 3-7 from three-point range on the night.

The Voyageurs come home next weekend to face off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves Friday night at Ben Avery Gym.
