WBB - Gee-Gees beat Voyageurs in Ben Avery

The Voyageurs hosted the uOttawa Gee-Gees in the Ben Avery on Saturday night. Despite a highly demonstrated effort, the Voyageurs lost the contest 71-57 to close out the weekend at home.

To start the first quarter, an offensive rebound by Lauren Robertson-Martin led to am early layup by Emilie Lafond. The Gee-Gees got an early lead, scoring 8 points within the first five minutes. Melanie Cloutier, Robertson-Martin and Lafond made one free throw each, while Claudia Pellerin scored a 3-point shot and a layup, giving the Voyageurs a 17-15 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, the Gee-Gees scored 15 points in the first four minutes, ultimately giving them the lead. The Voyageurs were scoreless until the sixth minute mark, when Aneisha Rismond scored a layup, followed by 2 points from Pellerin. Later on, Lafond and Pellerin both made two sets of free throws, helping the Voyageurs get closer to the Gee-Gees' score, with only a six-point deficit going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Robertson-Martin scored two free throws and a layup to put Laurentian on the board after the half. Halfway into the quarter, Cloutier scored a combination of 3 points, while Lyndelle Joseph made her first two points of the game due to free throws. With two minutes left, Molly Adams made a free throw, equalizing the game at 43 points a-piece. To finish off, Pellerin and Joseph gave the Voyageurs a 47-46 lead for the second time of the game with a layup each.

In the last ten minutes, the Vees were scoreless until the seventh minute mark, where a timeout was called. The Gee-Gees took the lead, scoring 11 points within five minutes. Laurentian called another timeout, which was proving useful, as Lafond scored a layup and Pellerin scored a 3-point shot. In the last minute, Roberston-Martin made two free throws and Pellerin scored another 3-pointer to conclude scoring for the Voyageurs. The Gee-Gees took the win 71-57.

Claudia Pellerin led the Voyageurs with 20 points and 7 rebounds while Emilie Lafond added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the contest.

The Voyageurs are back in action on Friday, December 1st as they take on the Nipissing Lakers on the road at 6pm. They will be back on home court on Saturday, December 2nd, to host the Lakers, also at 6pm.
