On Saturday afternoon, the women's basketball team took on the Western Mustangs in the first game of the triple header day hosted in collaboration by Voyageurs Athletics and the Sudbury Five. The game was hosted at the Sudbury Arena, more specifically the Sudbury Five home court. Unfortunately, the Voyageurs lost the game 76-38.

In the first quarter, the Voyageurs started off strong with Melanie Cloutier scoring a layup right after the tip-off. The Mustangs quickly answered, scoring 9 points within two minutes. Halfway through, Cloutier made two successful free throw attempts and Aneisha Rismond scored a jump shot. With a minute left, Rismond scored another jump shot and Princess Bernadino repeated the same motion to end the quarter. The Mustangs were ahead 20-14.

In the second quarter, Molly Adams scored a jump shot and the Voyageurs were scoreless until the last minute of the quarter, where Rismond scored two more points. At this point, the Voyageurs were behind 39-18 going into the halftime.

Coming back from the half, Cloutier added to the Voyageurs' score with a 3-point shot. After getting fouled, Cloutier made two more free throws. A minute later, Audrey-Anne Labreche scored two points, and Laurentian called a timeout to get organized offensively and defensively. With another foul by the Mustangs, Monica Jean-Baptiste made two free throw attempts which were successful, and Rismond added four more points to the board.

In the last quarter, the Mustangs and Voyageurs were scoreless until the seventh minute, in which Cloutier scored two points and Sophie Moore scored her first three points of the game. The Voyageurs dropped the game 76-38.

The standout performers were Aneisha Rismond with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Melanie Cloutier with 13 points and 9 rebounds.

"We had some unfortunate injuries today and it caused us issues with possession and turnovers. We will refocus and prepare for the next portion of our schedule," said head coach Jason Hurley.

The women are back in action next weekend, as they host the York Lions on Friday and the McMaster Marauders on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to start at 6 pm.
