The women's basketball team ended their weekend with a split after a close battle against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday night. Although the Voyageurs caught up several times, the Marauders took the 73-65 win.

In the first quarter, the Voyageurs took a minute to get their first basket, which was two free throws from Claudia Pellerin. Two minutes later, Pellerin made a jump shot and two layups, followed by a 3-point shot from Molly Adams. With less than thirty seconds to go in the quarter, Audrey-Anne Labreche was able to net her first jump shot of the game, assisted by Emilie Lafond. The Voyageurs were trailing 21-15 going into the next quarter.

In the second quarter, Lafond scored a layup at the eight-minute mark and Aneisha Rismond scored four points within forty seconds. With the Marauders being ahead by 10 points, Laurentian called a timeout in hopes of getting organized both offensively and defensively. In the last minute of the quarter, the Marauders got away from the Voyageurs with 10 points being scored in a short span. Molly Adams scored a layup to end the quarter, trailing once again 23-41.

Coming back from halftime, the Voyageurs were more aggressive offensively, with Pellerin making another jump shot and Lafond scoring a combination of 3 points. At the halfway point, Rismond and Pellerin scored a combination of 7 points, Labreche made another layup and Megan Axiak netted her first 3 points of the game. While driving to the net, Pellerin got fouled, leading to two successful free-throw attempts. With a little over a minute to go, Labreche turned on the aggressiveness and scored 6 points within twenty seconds. The Voyageurs needed 11 points to equalize the game going into the last ten minutes.

To finish off, Melanie Cloutier scored a layup and made two free throws, while Pellerin added two more successful free throws on the board. With six minutes to go and only needing 5 points to catch up, the Voyageurs called a timeout. Lauren Robertson-Martin and Cloutier both made a free throw after the timeout, Pellerin scored a layup and Labreche netted a 3-point shot. In the last two minutes, Lafond and Cloutier scored two free throws, which concluded scoring for both teams. The Voyageurs dropped the contest 73-65.

The standout performers were Claudia Pellerin with 20 points and 6 rebounds, Audrey-Anne Labreche with 13 points, and Melanie Cloutier with 7 points and 8 rebounds.

The Voyageurs will hit the road next weekend and head to Toronto, as they take on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday night, and the TMU Bold on Saturday night. Both tip offs are scheduled to take place at 6 pm.
