The Laurentian women's curling team took to the ice for the first time in the U SPORTS Championships Wednesday night, drawing the Memorial Sea-Hawks as their first opponents of the tournament.

After a quick start, jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first end, Laurentian hit a bit of a roadblock as Memorial put up three of their own in the second end and added another point in the fourth end to put the Sea-Hawks up 4-3 after 4 ends.

From there, though, the Voyageurs took over as they put up a three point end of their own in the fifth, taking back the lead. After a blank 6th end, Laurentian picked up another point in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth ends to extend the lead to 9-4, bringing the game to a finish, leaving the Voyageurs at 1-0 after game one.

The team shot an average 81% on the day with Piper Croisier leading the way with 63 points and 88% shooting in the match.

Laurentian will try to follow up Wednesday night's performance with 2 victories on Thursday as they face off against the UPEI Panthers in the third draw and the Alberta Pandas in draw five.
