WSOC | Voyageurs Open Up 2018 With a 2-2 Draw Against Ravens

The 2018 OUA season officially began Saturday afternoon for the Voyageurs women's soccer team as they battled their way to a 2-2 draw against the visiting Carleton Ravens.

Neither team took long to get on the board as the Ravens pounced on their first offensive opportunity just four minutes into the game on a tap in from Cheyenne Bent, courtesy of Michelle Wilson. The Voyageurs responded less than two minutes later when Megan Chiovitti netted her first of the season to knot the score at 1-1. The remainder of the first half was a back and forth affair with both teams putting up several scoring chances but unable to solve either goalkeeper, including reigning OUA East First-Team All-Star, Caitlin McNamara, sending it into the half in a tie.

Both teams came out of the break with several early scoring chances, but it wasn't until the 64th minute when one of the Voyageurs' top scorers from last season, Brianne Rodrigue, netted her first tally of the new year from first-year forward Katlyn Jung. Following the go ahead from Rodrigue, pressure continued on both sides until the 85th minute when the Ravens' Paige Boyle slid one past McNamara to knot the score at 2-2. Last minute chances and near misses continued through injury time, but neither team could break the tie, ending the battle in a 2-2 draw.

The Voyageurs will look to secure their first victory of the season tomorrow as they welcome the Ottawa Gee-Gees to the LU Soccer Field at 12pm.
