WSOC | Despite Out-shooting Lakers, Voyageurs Drop Tough Decision

After a tough loss against Queen's the previous week, the Voyageurs Women's Soccer team were looking to rebound on Friday night against the Nipissing Lakers as the two northern rivals commenced the 2018-2019 Riley Gallo Cup and 705 Challenge Cup.

The Voyageurs applied pressure from the starting whistle, tallying four shots on goal to the Lakers' two in the first half. However, neither team were successful in finding the back of the net.

The breakthrough came early in the second half when Nippising's Andrea Young scored in the 47th minute of the game, giving the Lakers a one goal lead. Despite constant pressure from the Vees; outshooting the Lakers by a five to three count in the second half, they were unable to solve the Lakers' defence as they were held scoreless for the match, dropping a tough 1-0 decision.

The Voyageurs will now look to even this home-and-home series at one game a piece as they host the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday afternoon at 12 pm.
