WSOC | Voyageurs Fall to Excalibur 2-0

WSOC | Voyageurs Fall to Excalibur 2-0

It was a tough outing on Sunday for the Voyageurs as they dropped a 2-0 contest against the Trent Excalibur.

The first half was fairly even with both teams posting similar statistics. However, the Voyageurs played with an aggressive flair as they accumulated 12 fouls compared to just 2 of their opponent's. But in the end, neither team would be able to find the back of the net as the half came to a close with scores all level at 0-0.

The second half would prove to be the downfall for the Voyageurs they would see their goalkeeper, Heather McGregor, receive a red card which resulted in a goal off a penalty kick in 55th minute for Tori Chia to put the Excalibur up 1-0. Jubilations would continue for the Excalibur as they would add an insurance in the 68th minute via a goal from Cherilyn Yeboah with an assist from Kyra Barton to put the match out of reach. The Excalibur recorded 12 shots on goal to the Voyageurs' 1 in the 2nd half and took home the W.

Disappointment was evident in Victoria-Maria Galluzo's post-game comments: "This game wasn't the greatest. It was more so just the connection of our passes. I mean, everyone worked hard, especially when we got that red card, we still worked super, super hard, it was just…we just couldn't connect those passes. It's unfortunate that hard work doesn't always pay off. You got to make sure that you are connecting on everything."

The Voyageurs will now regroup and look to return to their winning ways on Sunday, September 8th against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
