Five members of the cross-country team represented the Voyageurs over the weekend, competing at the U Sports Championships, hosted by the Western Mustangs. The runners competed against approximately thirty universities from across the country, over an eight-kilometre course at the Thames Valley Golf Course.

On the men's side, fifth year psychology student and North Bay native Keon Wallingford was the top placing Voyageur, finishing 63rd, with a time of 26:10. Second year nursing student and Sudbury native Brandon Radey placed 138th in 27:58. The men were facing 157 competitors.

On the women's side, third year nursing student and Sudbury native Kristen Mrozewski and fifth year education student and also Sudbury native Angela Mozzon ran side by side and finished less than a second apart. Mrozewski finished in 118th place, while Mozzon finished in 119th place, both with a time of 32:49. Fourth year biomedical biology student Meredith Kusnierczyk placed in 139th, with a time of 34:26.

"I'm proud of how we competed today", noted Head Coach Darren Jermyn. "The level of competition at the U Sports level is top notch. The majority of Canada's national and Olympic team members in the distance running events are now flowing through the Canadian university system, so it was great to have Laurentian athletes competing with the best athletes in the country."

The National Championship concludes the cross-country season. The Voyageurs distance runners will join their teammates on the varsity track and field team as they prepare for the indoor season. The first competition is set for December.
