MLAX | Tough Road Trip for Voyageurs

SUDBURY, ON - After a perfect 2-0 start to their season, the Laurentian Voyageurs men’s lacrosse team hit the road for their first games away from home this season, taking on the Brock Badgers and Western Mustangs. Both the Badgers and Mustangs sit #1 and #2 in the CUFLA West standings and proved to be too much for the young Voyageurs squad as they came home empty-handed, evening their season record to 2-2.

In Saturday's matchup against the Badgers, the Voyageurs' Austin Bouchard opened the scoring early with his first of the season. The Badgers quickly responded with one of their own while the teams traded chances for the remainder of the quarter, ending the first in a 2-2 tie. It was much of the same story in the second quarter, with Brock on the offensive early, ending the half with a 6-4 lead. The Voyageurs tried to claw their way back into the game, getting as close as 9-6 at the end of the third, but the Badgers proved to be too much on the day, taking the win 13-7.

Veteran Mike Kussman ended the game with three points while Sam Postma and Adam Elinesky both chipped in with two goals each.

Sunday's matchup against the Western Mustangs was quite a different story for the Voyageurs as they faced an offensive onslaught from the Mustangs and dug an early hole that they were unable to recover from. Neil McInroy scored the lone first-half goal for the Voyageurs with 11 minutes left in the first to cut the early Mustangs lead to 3-1. From there, the Mustangs went on a tear, taking the victory with a final score of 21-2.

Postma and Brad Gerrow also chipped in on the two Voyageurs goals.

The Voyageurs will look to rebound from their tough weekend as they travel to Hamilton to take on the McMaster Marauders Friday night at Alumni Field, game time is set for 7:30pm. On Sunday, the Voyageurs get an early chance at revenge as they welcome the Brock Badgers to LU Stadium, game time set for 4pm.
