The Voyageurs indoor track and field team travelled to London this weekend to compete at the Don Wright Team Challenge, hosted by Western University. During this meet, four additional Voyageurs qualified to compete at the OUA Championships, which will be held at the end of February.

After missing the past few seasons due to injury, Keon Wallingford, a fifth-year psychology student, placed 9th in the men's 3000 metres with a time of 8:47.53. Sudbury native Kristen Mrozewski placed 8th in the 1000 metre event, in a time of 3:02.68, while fourth-year ADVL student Sarah Booth placed tenth in that same race, finishing with a time of 3:06.03.

On the men's side, Sudbury native Josh Kim achieved OUA standard and set a new personal best of 7.37 seconds in the 60-metre event, placing 12th.

Wallingford, Mrozewski, Booth and Kim will join athletes Shelley Hladin and Tristan Routhier who previously qualified for the OUA Championships.

Hladin had another solid performance in the pits, placing 4th in long jump, with a best of 5.35 metres. She also placed 6th in the triple jump event with a best jump of 11.03 metres. Routhier ran two excellent rounds in the men's 60 metres, placing fourth in the men's final, with a time of 7.06 seconds.

At the end of the competition, the Voyageurs had a total of nine new personal bests, including Erika MacNeill (300m – 48.81), Jessy Trottier (300m – 51.61), Claire Scholl (1000m – 3:19.00), Charlotte Grenier (3000m – 11:36.68), Brandon Radey (600m – 1:27.03), Owen Roney (1000m – 2:54.14), Seamus Doherty (3000m – 9:02.60), Cameron Date (3000m – 9:26.60), and Josh Kim (60m – 7.37).

"It was an excellent competition across all our event disciplines today", noted head coach Darren Jermyn. "The team has been training extremely hard, so it is rewarding to have six athletes already qualified for the OUA Championships with still four more competitions left in our regular season", he said.

The Voyageurs will travel to Montreal to take place in the McGill Team Challenge next weekend.
