The men's golf team headed south for a pair of tournaments over the weekend, finishing tied for seventh at Western before turning in a first place finish at McMaster.

The weekend began on Thursday when the team headed to the St. Thomas Golf & Country Club to open up their season.  The team found themselves in the thick of the ten team field, finishing tied for seventh with a total score of 309, just eight shots back from a podium spot.  First year golfer, Ben Fowke, led the Voyageurs with a 73, finishing tied for fourth.

On Monday the team headed to King's Forest Golf Club in Hamilton to close out the weekend.  The squad was once again paced by a Fowke but this time it was older brother Alex Fowke leading the charge.  The Seattle University transfer fired a 1-under 71, which was tied for second on the day.  Ben finished in fourth with a 73 and Jacob Lacko turned in a T10 finish, posting a 76.  Ethan Mulligan turned in a round of 77 to finish T12 while Vincent Palladino finished T21 in the 54-player field with a round of 80.

The strong performances added up to a first place finish with a team score of 297, 10 shots better than the second place McMaster Marauders.

The men's and women's team will both be in action next weekend when they head to the Waterloo/Laurier tournament on Oct. 1-2 and the Guelph Invitational on Oct. 3.
