Laurentian's track & field team returned to indoor competition this past weekend, competing at the Sharon Anderson Invitational hosted by the University of Toronto.

The Vees were led by fifth year psychology and concurrent education student, Pascale Gendron (Toronto), who ran to gold in the women's 3,000 metre event in a time of 10 minutes 21.93 seconds.  This time qualifies Gendron to compete at the OUA Championships later this season.

Second year nursing student, Kirsten Mrowzewski (Sudbury) earned a silver medal, placing second in the women's 600 metre event in a time of 1 minute 42.12 seconds.

Other notable performances on the women's side included fourth year health promotion and concurrent education student, Angela Mozzon (Sudbury), who placed 5th in the women's 3,000 metre, setting a new personal best of 10 minutes 52.20 seconds. Second year kinesiology student, Naomi Palmer (Sudbury) placed 36th in the women's 60 metre sprint in a time of 8.45 seconds.

On the men's side, the team had two top-10 finishes, including fourth year nursing student, Nick Lambert (Elliot Lake), placing 4th in the 3,000 metres in a time of 9:51.46; and first year nursing student, Brandon Radey (Sudbury), placed 9th in the 600 metres in a time of 1:28.35.  Other results for the men included Patrick Leroux, 12th in 1,500 metres, 4:33.92; Kevin Yuan, 15th in 600 metres, 1:38.25; and Tristan Routhier who placed 24th in both the 60 metres, 7.20 seconds and 300 metres, 38.15 seconds.

Vees Head Coach, Darren Jermyn noted, "Our team continued to train consistently over the Christmas break, so this was a great opportunity to get an early season race for a handful of our athletes. Pascale is definitely looking in good form as she led from the gun today in the 3K. Kristen just got out dipped in the 600m but ran solid splits to earn that silver.  Angela set a 21 second personal best in the 3K, so that was a great way to cap off the meet and get our season rolling again".

A full Vees Track and Field squad will return to action at the Don Wright Team Challenge, hosted by Western University, on January 21st.
