In their final matchup of the season the Laurentian Voyageurs Men's Baseball team welcomed the Carleton Ravens to the Nickel City for a double header at Terry Fox Field Sunday afternoon.
Off the back of a 2-2 record last weekend Laurentian looked to create some much needed momentum going into their OUA Championship qualifiers next weekend.
In game 1 of the day the Vees got off to a dream start. After giving up a run in the top of the first inning Laurentian came to bat in the bottom half and put up a number of their own. First Andrew Weber's RBI double got the wheels rolling before Ethan Berubé reached on an error with Weber scoring on the play. They then added a third with a late single off the bat of Noah O'Brien scored another with the Vees jumping out to an early 3-1 lead.
From there though they struggled to hold on as Carleton slowly crawled their way back into the game and then in the third inning the Ravens would take a 4-3 lead that they would never give up, winning 7-3 in the end and taking game 1 of the day.
Game 1 was a tough pill to swallow for the Vees and it seemed to take a toll on their play in game 2 as after being tied at 1-1 through 2 innings Carleton put up 5 runs in the third and ended up running away with it winning 11-1 and sweeping the day over the Voyageurs.
Laurentian will head to York University next weekend as they will play in the OUA Central Qualifier against the York Lions, TMU Bold and Toronto Varsity Blues with the winner of the qualifier moving on to the OUA finals held on October 11th and 12th.
