MXC | Men's Squad Has Strong OUA Championship, Qualifies for Nationals

The Laurentian University men's and women's cross-country teams competed at the OUA Cross-Country Running Championships in Hamilton's Bayfront Park on the weekend, with the men's squad qualifying for the USports National Championships after finishing in 6th place. The women finished 12th.

Full teams from from 12 schools participated in the event, plus individuals from an additional six universities.

The Laurentian men's squad was led by Eric Gareau, who cracked the top-20 with an 18th-place finish and a time of 32:15 over the 10 kilometre course. He was followed by Liam Passi, who was 23rd in 32:08; rookie Keon Wallingford who was 31st in 32:48; rookie Chase Canty who was 38th in 33:06 and Alexandre Fishbein-Ouimette, who completed the scoring by finishing 46th in 34:02. Displacers were Caleb Beland and rookie, Maurice Graenert who were 62nd and 72nd in 35:25 and 36:32 respectively.

The men scored a total of 155 points for a 6th-place finish and a top-five average time of 32:51.

"After the pre-OUA race here two weeks ago, we knew we were underdogs to place top-6 and qualify for Nationals," said men's coach, Darren Jermyn. "But the guys ran amazing tactical races and put in big performances when it counted. This is the seventh year in a row that Laurentian has qualified either a men's or women's team for nationals, so it's nice to continue that streak."
