XC | Mozzon and Wallingford lead Laurentian cross country teams at McMaster Invitational

Laurentian's Cross Country Running team competed in the final regular season competition this weekend at the McMaster Invitational at Kay Drage Park in Hamilton. The eight kilometer course consisted of four laps of a two kilometre grass loop with several tight turns and some challenging footing.
Resting four of their top six runners due to injury and academic conflicts, the Laurentian women were led by fifth year runner Angela Mozzon (Sudbury) who placed 51st overall in a time of 32:00. Also scoring for the Vees were first year kinesiology student Georgia Lepage (Sudbury), 103rd in 34:32, third year nursing student Claire Scholl (Newmarket), 106th in 34:38, first year nursing student Maeve Blake (North Bay), 122nd in 36:52, and first year SPAD student Ariel Gibbons (Renfrew), 124th in 37:50. The Laurentian women placed 11th in the team standings
The Laurentian men ran to an 8th place team finish and were again led by fifth year runner Keon Wallingford (North Bay) who finished 36th in a time of 26:21. Up next for the Vees was third year nursing student Brandon Radey (Sudbury) who placed 55th in 27:03. Also scoring for Laurentian were fourth year kinesiology student Patrick Leroux (Wingham), 80th in 27:40, second year SPAD student Owen Roney (Sudbury), 94th in 28:15, and third year engineering student Travis Annett (Sudbury), 113th in 28:48. Also competing for Laurentian was first year engineering student Alan Wilkin (Manitoulin), 136th in 31:23.
"We are a bit banged up on the women's side, so we decided to rest several of our top runners to ensure we are healthy for the OUA Championships in two weeks", noted Head Coach Darren Jermyn. "The men were solid but we definitely weren't at our best today. We have a planned recovery training block with the Thanksgiving break and it couldn't come at a better time."
The Vees will now begin their final preparations for the OUA Championships, hosted by Nipissing University at the Osprey Links Golf Course in Callander on October 28th.
