WXC | Voyageurs Finish 2nd at Geneseo

The Laurentian cross-country running teams competed at the Mike Woods/Geneseo Invitational in New York's Letchworth State Park this weekend with both teams bringing home second place trophies. Over 300 runners and 23 NCAA Division 3 teams competed in the men's event, while 230 runners and 19 teams participated in the women's race.

The Laurentian women were led by incumbent champion, Jenny Bottomley, who came back from a summer injury to finish 4th in a time of 22:30 over the 6km course. She received strong backing from Megan Crocker, who placed 10th in 23:11; Nicole Rich, 12th in 23:20; Breanne Steven, 21st in 23:53 and rookie Sarah Thackeray, who was 25th in 24:11. Meghan Sippel was the sole displacer, finishing 37th in 24:41.

"This is our 6th time at this meet and we've always enjoyed it," said head coach, Dick Moss. "It gives us a chance to compete against large fields and the cost is similar to competing in Windsor or Kingston. And to come away with two team medals is a lot of fun. It was unexpected, but the women matched their finish from last year, and the men improved to 2nd from last year's 8th place finish. Coach Jermyn and his guys are doing a great job."
