MSOC | Varsity Blues Too Much for Voyageurs

MSOC | Varsity Blues Too Much for Voyageurs

The Laurentian Voyageurs men’s soccer team wrapped up their opening weekend on Sunday afternoon with a trip to Toronto to take on the Varsity Blues where they came out on the wrong end of a 3-0 score line.

The Varsity Blues controlled play from the opening whistle. Second year goaltender, Connor Vande Weghe, was relied on early and often to keep the Blues attack at bay and he was up to the task until the 39th minute when the Blues finally broke through.  Toronto would add a second tally in the 45th minute to head into half time with a 2-0 lead.

The Voyageurs finally registered their first of 2 shots on goal in the 2nd half but it was the Varsity Blues who would be the ones to score, finding the back of the net again in the 82nd minute to put the cap on a 3-0 victory.  Vande Weghe finished the game with 6 saves and now leads the OUA with 15 saves through 2 games.

The Voyageurs now head to Kingston this coming weekend as they face RMC on Saturday and Queen’s on Sunday, both games with a 2:15pm kickoff.

Laurentian University's Department of Athletics is home to 23 varsity sports teams. The Voyageurs decorated history of pride and tradition includes 62 provincial championships as well as 10 national championships in 54 years of competition.
