WSOC | Voyageurs Dominate in the Rain

WSOC | Voyageurs Dominate in the Rain

The Voyageurs opened up this weekend's play in impressive fashion against Trent Excalibur (0-5), to the tune of a 7-0 victory.

From kickoff it was clear that Laurentian was the day's better squad, evident by their rate of possession and the fact that the match was largely played in Trent's defensive end. The Vee's showed their strength and tenacity by winning what seemed like every 50/50 ball, often leading to lapses on defense from Trent.

The Voyageurs' dominant play paid off with five first half goals, highlighted by a beautiful curling strike by Sarah Sanford from just inside the box. LU notched an additional two scores in the second half to sure up their 7-0 victory over Trent.

Of the Voyageurs' 7 goals, Sanford and Sarah Fitzgerald each nothced two goals, with Fitzgerald grabbing an assist in the second half.

The Voyageurs (4-2) look to sweep the weekend's matches tomorrow against a tough UOIT Ridgebacks squad, who took care of the Nipissing Lakers earlier today to improve their record to 5-1-1.

Laurentian University's Department of Athletics is home to 23 varsity sports teams. The Voyageurs decorated history of pride and tradition includes 63 provincial championships as well as 10 national championships in 54 years of competition.
