WSOC | Voyageurs Stopped by Gaels

WSOC | Voyageurs Stopped by Gaels

The Laurentian Voyageurs were in tough against the second best team in their division, the Queen's Gaels, on Sunday as they looked to continue their streak of strong performances. But unfortunately, the Gaels were up to the task and halted the Voyageurs' charge by defending home field with a score of 4-0.

Veteran midfielder, Megan Chiovitti of the Voyageurs managed an early shot on goal; in just the fifth minute but was saved by Alanna Richardson. The Gaels however, would have more luck with their shot attempts as they opened the scoring in the 23:03 minute of the match when Christie Gray scored on an assist from Jenna Matsukubo. And, just seven minutes later, in the 33:03 minute, Taylor Green added to the Gaels advantage with an assist from Jamie Foot. Continuing on, the Voyageurs would desperately attempt to get onto the scoreboard but could not succeed in their valiant efforts. They only managed two shots on goal the entire match and the second shot came off the cleats of Mia De Gasperis in the 40:05 mark of the match and was turned away by the opposing goalkeeper. Soon after, the first half came to an end with Gaels up two goals to nothing.

The second was much more of the same as the first. The Gaels pressed on for more goals while the Voyageurs could not mustard any. The Gaels scored the third marker of the match in the 67:46 minute via Gray's unassisted effort that also gave her, her second goal of the match. And finally, Matsukubo sealed the victory for the Gaels in the 83:33 by scoring an unassisted goal to make the score line 4-0.

The Voyageurs will now regroup and look to return to their winning ways on October 5th when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues at 12 pm.
