WSOC | Voyageurs Stopped by Excalibur 6-0

The Voyageurs lost by a hefty margin of 6-0 against the Trent Excalibur on a cold Sunday afternoon.

The match did not start on great terms for the Vees as they found themselves on their back foot early when, just two minutes in, Emma Twohey scored on an assist from Cherilyn Yeboah to give the Excalibur the lead. And then, just ten minutes later, Twohey doubled the Excalibur advantage by scoring an unassisted goal. The Voyageurs were unable to mount much offense of their own but, to their credit, they kept the Excalibur offense at bay as they did not allow any extra goals in the first half.

The second half, however, was a completely different story. The Excalibur came out flying by controlling possession and creating a number of scoring opportunities. In the 55th minute, Twohey converted one such opportunity and in the process, also completed her hat trick of goals with an assist from Violet Hipkin. Soon after, in the 59th minute Yeboah scored a beauty of a goal as her medium distance shot rung off the crossbar and crossed the goal line for the fourth Excalibur goal. This theme would continue in the 66th minute when Hipkin added the fifth marker of the match. And finally, Caitlyn Knight sealed the deal in the 74th minute when she scored an unassisted goal to give the Excalibur six goals on the day and her team a vital three points in a tight playoff race. The Voyageurs were simply unable to muster any offense and unfortunately came out on the losing end by a score of 6-0.

With the loss, the Voyageurs now find themselves seven points back of a playoff spot with three games to play but their quest continues Sunday at Ontario Tech. Kick off is scheduled for 12 pm at Vaso's Field.
