WSOC | Voyageurs Grab Important Three Points in 3-0 Shutout
The Voyageurs Women's Soccer Team looked to grab some valuable points at home against a weak RMC squad. With some help, a sweep of the weekend's matches could see Laurentian finish as high as 2nd place in the OUA's East division. A top three finish would assure LU a home match to begin the playoffs.
The Vee's got on the scoresheet early following a great move from Megan Ferguson to fake out the Paladins' defender and keeper. Shortly after, RMC's starting keeper picked up a red card, forcing the Paladins to play out the rest of the match with 10 players. Despite the strong push by the Voyageurs, RMC was able to keep LU from padding their lead in the first half.
Picking up where they left off, the Vee's were able to add two more to their goal total in the second half. Both goals were put in by Sarah Fitzgerald, the first off a quality strike, and the second a header in close.
The 3-0 victory guarantees Laurentian a top 4 finish. The Voyageurs take on Queen's tomorrow in a home match for their final regular season game.
