WSOC | Gallo to Coach Final Home Game Sunday

The only coach the Laurentian women’s soccer program has ever known will be on the bench on home soil for the final time on Sunday, as Rob Gallo will be retiring at the end of this, his 20th season.

Gallo has been at the helm of the women’s soccer team since their inception as a club in 1999 and a full-fledged team in the OUA in 2000.  Competing in his 19th season of OUA competition, Gallo has been named the OUA East Coach of the Year four times in his career; 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2015.

In just their fifth season in the league, Gallo led the team to a birth in the OUA Final Four and he has guided the team to playoff appearances in 15 of their first 18 seasons.  With four games left in this season, Gallo is looking to push that total to 16 as the Voyageurs currently sit three points back of the playoffs with a game in hand on Toronto, the team they are chasing.

The Voyageurs host a pair of games this weekend with Queen’s coming to town on Saturday for a 12pm kick-off at the Laurentian Soccer Field before RMC visits for Gallo’s final home game on Sunday at 12pm at the James Jerome turf.  The men play each day at 2:15pm.

There will be a presentation prior to Sunday’s women’s game to commemorate the final chapter of Gallo’s established career with the Voyageurs.
