BSB | Voyageurs pick up first win, as they split double header against Gee Gees

The Laurentian men's baseball team entered Saturday's double header against Ottawa winless on the season. However, they were able to pick up their first win of the season in game 1, winning 5-1. Ottawa was able to respond, taking the second game 9-2.
Game 1 was all about Laurentian starting pitcher Clarke Preston. Making his third start of the season, Preston turned in his best performance. He went the distance, tossing seven innings of one run ball. Additionally, he only allowed four hits while striking out four. For Ottawa, Alex Gerard started the game and pitched fantastic, tossing four scoreless innings, while striking out six. However, bullpen arm Kody Davey didn't fare as well. Davey surrendered five runs (three earned) through two innings of relief. Laurentian was able to score three runs in the 5th inning to give them a 3-0 lead at the time. Despite mustering only two hits in the inning, Laurentian benefited from a walk, HBP and wild pitch to plate three. Ryan Laccase was able to come through with a big RBI single in the inning.
The Vees tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the 6th, before Ottawa scored their only run in the 7th inning as Laurentian took the game 5-1.
As for game 2, Ottawa started quickly, scoring four runs in the top of the first. They benefited from a strugglesome day on the mound from Laurentian starter William Arsenault, as he walked the first four batters of the game. This was just the beginning of an unfortunate day for him. He was pulled after just two innings, having given up eight earned runs while walking seven batters. In fact the seven walks were the fewest he had allowed in a game this season. Ottawa starting pitcher Hayden Mcgrath fared quite better, tossing five innings of one run ball, while striking out eight Voyageurs hitters. He picked up his first win of the season, while Arsenault picked up the loss. Vees pitcher Johnny O'Reilly was strong over five innings of relief but Ottawa's early lead was ultimately too much to overcome as they cruised to a 9-2 victory.
The Voyageurs finish up their regular season with two games in Ottawa against Carleton next weekend.
